About Ellie Malin

Ellie Malin is a Melbourne based artist working in relief woodblock printing, painting, installations and collaborative projects. Her colourful bold art works reflect a playful approach to image making where bright colours and form construct the landscape.  Her artworks are inspired by a love for travel, memories, and also from the most meaningful to the insignificant moments in life, in all their beauty.

“An image’s origins may begin as something quite recognisable as I slowly take on a process of deconstructing it into pure simplified shapes and colour. In effect I’m pulling things apart in order to simplify their appearance”.

Ellie completed a degree in Fine Arts whilst majoring in printmaking from Monash University in 2007. She has exhibited in group shows and has been a finalist in numerous awards including The Senini Student Award at McClelland Gallery (2006), the Swan Hill Print and Drawing Award (2012), Bunyule Award for Works on Paper (2013 & 2015), exhibited at Australian Print Workshop Gallery (2013, 2015, 2016) and solo exhibitions at Modern Times (2013, 2016), and Boom Gallery (2015)). Other major projects include collaborations with Australian fashion house Gorman (A/W 2013), Aesop / Gertrude Street Projection Festival (2014) and Hunting for George Collective (2014). Her works have been collected broadly across Australia and internationally and more recently entered the archive of the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra.
